Movie Nightmares and Scary Movies

As a boy of seven I spent a sleepless night myself after watching the movie “Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)”. Kevin McCarthy plays a small-town doctor who learns that the population of his community is being replaced by emotionless alien duplicates. McCarthy does a great job of selling the hysteria of such an alien encounter. Although by modern standards the movie is not full of shock and gore, for its time it is a great “B” movie experience. This movie is a classic in horror and Sci-Fi being remade…

HBO Advance Notice: The Wolverine

The Wolverine unleashes its signature berserker rage on Friday, and today brings a new clip to prove it. Star Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold premiered a new Wolverine scene during a special HBO Advance Notice segment. In the clip, Logan crashes in on a very corrupt and very naked minister of justice, demanding answers — in 10 words or less. When Logan doesn’t like the answers he gets, the minister finds out firsthand what “berserker rage” is really all about. Watch the scene below, then read on for Jackman’s…

Man Of Steel Movie Review

Comics Talk is not an organization that gets an invitation to see a premier of a movie before it is released to the public so when I saw some of the movie reviews before the release of the movie and a 57% rating by the movie critics at Rotton Tomatoes and I read some of the criticism I was discouraged. But then I saw that in the early assessment of movie goers that 82% of them liked it and many people have not seen it yet I was encouraged. Having…

Robb Pratt’s Superman Classic Fan Film

Robb Pratt, an animator and storyboard artist for Disney projects like Pocahontas and Kim Possible, says he was inspired by the music of the live-action Superman serial of the ’40s, but with the outrageous design for Lois and the giant robots, it feels more to me like a modern update of Max Fleischer’s great 1940s Superman cartoons. Rob Pratt’s Superman Classic is the best of fan films. The quality speaks for itself. My only complaint is they are too short, would like to see what he could do in longer…

What Is The Top Selling Comic Book Issue Of All Times?

I have been around comics for many years and I know comics as well as the next guy but this question got me thinking for a while. What single issue comic sold the most issues of all times. I thought of the Death of Superman in Superman #75, The Amazing Spider-Man #583 (the Obama issue) went into I think six printings, and the Death of Robin in Batman #428 one of the first comic events to make mainstream news. Then I remembered the comic event by Marvel of the 1991…

Comics in Review 2011 at Comics Talk

2011 has come and gone but not without some outstanding comic book publications. While DC Comics and Marvel were the top sellers there was some great work done in other publishing comic companies. Dark Horse Comics led with the death of Hellboy in Hellboy the Fury #3 while comic heroes tend not to ever die in the comic book world Mike Mignola really did it he killed his most well known character Hellboy. Very well written I am sure the series may still be available. Also at Dark Horse Jim Shooter…

The Greatest Comics of the 21st Century

Life is never simple for the comics book writer and artist and editor. To keep the readers interest in story and blend it with great art work and story panels and edit it so it is not too long and not too short with the right story content this is not easily done. So when you read and say to yourself that was good you must understand and appreciate how the final comic came to be in your hands. Sometimes the story is great but the art is bad or the art…
