2017 Officially First Down Year Since 2011 Comic Sales

It’s official official. Direct Market comic book sales fell year-to-year for the first time since 2011, with 2017 finishing up about 10% off from 2016. According to figures released by Diamond Comic Distributors Friday morning, DC Comics led the Direct Market in dollar share, powered by the two best-selling comic books of the month – Geoff Johns and Gary Frank’s Doomsday Clock #2 and Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Dark Nights: Metal #4 – and four other Top 10 titles.  Marvel Comics, which released the other four Top 10 titles…

Marvel Comics was the leading publisher in Retail Dollar and Unit Market Shares based on total sales of comics, graphic novels and magazines to comic book specialty stores in 2011, according to Diamond Comic Distributors. Justice League #1 was the top seller for the year, with more than 230,000 copies sold to North American retailers across several printings.
