The Amazing Spider-Man the Movie

Sony has announced that Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot will be officially titled The Amazing Spider-Man.  That’s not too much of a surprise. Amazing Fantasy 15 and Amazing Spider-Man #1 was the first appearance of the character. Sony also released the first official photo of Garfield in his full Spider-Man costume, making clear that — like in the comics (but unlike in the Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies) — this version of Peter Parker did indeed invent his web-slingers. Check out the photo below:

The film, which is now in production and is being shot entirely in 3D, will be released on July 3, 2012.  The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field.  The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.  Laura Ziskin, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach are producing the Marvel Entertainment production for Columbia Pictures.  The executive producers are Stan Lee, Kevin Feige, and Michael Grillo.  The film’s official website is http://www.TheAmazingSpiderMan-movie.com.

Andrew Garfield, 26, nabbed the highly sought-after role of Peter Parker after a worldwide search. Garfield, while largely unknown in the states, is one of the U.K.’s most highly regarded up-and-comers. He appeared in Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus as well as John Crowley’s Boy A, for which he received a best actor BAFTA in 2008.

Since it is a reboot it looks like they are going more in a classical direction with direct input from Stan Lee the creator of Spider-Man. The costumn looks a lot like the artist Steve Ditko version. After several films in the Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire Spider-Man production it will be interesting to see what direction they go with this. C. Thomas Howell The actor recently appeared on The Retroradio Podcast, and confirmed that the Lizard will in fact do battle with Spidey, and that his character’s son gets caught up in the turmoil. “There is not a whole lot to talk about. Sony wants us to be hush-hush right now. I play a relatively small role.

I play a construction worker who’s son is caught in the middle of a battle between the Lizard and Spider-Man on the Manhattan bridge. Spider-Man helps me get my son back from this perilous situation. There is some payback there at the end of the movie. Spider-man is kind of hurting. I help him when all of the other people won’t. Part of the story is, the nation thinks he might be a bad guy. They don’t know what to think. Because of my experience on the bridge with my kid, I know he is a good guy. I pitch in and help out at the end. That is the best way.”

The Amazing Spider-Man is slated to hit theaters on July 3rd, 2012. The only thing bad about it that we have to wait over a year to see the new movie. Well such is life. I think I will see you at the movie for this one. Stay tuned comic faithful for more. 🙂 Walt
