Writer/producer Alex Kurtzman has inked an overall deal with CBS to develop new properties in the Star Trek universe, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Kurtzman will take the reins as showrunner of Star Trek: Discovery following the firing of former showrunners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen Berg. Additionally, Kurtzman and writer Akiva Goldsman are reportedly working on a new Star Trek series featuring Patrick Stewart reprising his Star Trek: The Next Generation role of Jean-Luc Picard, though THR says CBS refused to confirm such a project is in development.
Kurtzman’s deal expands on his existing agreement with CBS for non-Star Trek television properties, and will keep him at the network through 2023.

Star Trek: Discovery season 2 is currently in production for an expected 2019 premiere.
