Timothy Dalton has been cast as Dr. Niles “The Chief” Caulder for DC Universe’s Doom Patrol.
“Genius. Visionary. Accomplished. Eccentric. Maybe a little insane,” reads DC Universe’s description of the role. “Dr. Niles Caulder, known more informally as ‘the Chief,’ is the wheelchair-bound scientist who traditionally leads the quirky band of heroes called the Doom Patrol. Caulder is, in a word, brilliant.”
Dalton is best known for playing James Bond in two 1980s movies. Dalton also appeared in the movie adaptations of Flash Gordon and The Rocketeer.
Kelsey Grammer was previously reported to be in talks for this same role. Dalton’s casting fills out an important primary role in the team, which has already added the likes of Brendan Fraser as Robotman, April Bowlby as Elasti-Woman, Dwain Murphy as Negative Man, and Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane. Alan Tudyk will play one of the series’ villains, Mr. Nobody, and we know Jovian Wade’s Cyborg will play a part in the series.
