RON HOWARD Reportedly to Be Named HAN SOLO Director

Lucasfilm is set to name acclaimed director Ron Howard to direct its upcoming Han Solo film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Howard was on the reported shortlist of directors to replace the previous team of Phil Lord & Christopher Miller, who were unexpectedly let go from the project earlier this week after several months of filming.

According to THR, Howard is still in the process of meeting with the cast and crew and reviewing the footage that has already been shot. The still-untitled Han Solo film was only scheduled to shoot for three more weeks. It is unknown how the change in directors will affect the film’s production timeline, however five weeks of reshoot time was also scheduled for the film, as is standard procedure for major Hollywood productions.

Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ron Howard is one of this generation’s most popular directors. From the critically acclaimed dramas A Beautiful Mind and Apollo 13 to the hit comedies Parenthood and Splash, he has created some of Hollywood’s most memorable films.

Howard directed and produced “Cinderella Man” starring Oscar winner Russell Crowe, with whom he previously collaborated on “A Beautiful Mind”, for which Howard earned an Oscar for Best Director and which also won awards for Best Picture, Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress. The film garnered four Golden Globes as well, including the award for Best Motion Picture Drama. Additionally, Howard won Best Director of the Year from the Directors Guild of America. Howard and producer Brian Grazer received the first annual Awareness Award from the National Mental Health Awareness Campaign for their work on the film.

The announcement is expected to come Thursday. Han Solo is due out in theaters May 25, 2018.
