Earth's Mightiest Heroes

MEDIA RELEASE Albert Ching, Newsarama Staff Writer: Multiple outlets say that Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will be ending its run on Disney XD after two seasons, in favor of a new animated series starting in 2013. Sources including Marvel TV News cite a “print only” press release stating the following: “The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes won’t be renewed for the 3rd Season. Marvel Animation will present their newly developed series Marvel’s Avengers Assemble in 2013.” The report came with a purported promotional image of Avengers Assemble, featuring the movie Avengers cast — Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye — along with the Falcon.

In recent weeks, rumors had mounted on sites like Comic Book Movie that Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes was targeted for cancellation, in favor of a new show closer in line to the recently launched Ultimate Spider-Man series, its partner on the Sunday morning “Marvel Universe” programming block. Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes debuted on Oct. 20, 2010, with the currently unfolding second season starting on April 1 of this year. The show has featured a large cast — including the movie Avengers along with Wasp, Hank Pym, Black Panther and more — plus guest appearances from characters such as Luke Cage, Iron Fist and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel declined to comment on the story, or the veracity of the press release.
