Veteran comic book creator Jim Starlin revealed in a Facebook post that Warner Bros. has provided him a royalty check for their use of his creation Anatoli Knyyazev/KGBeast in the film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – and that the single check was for more money than he’s received from Marvel Studios for the use of all his creations combined, including Thanos, Drax, and Gamora.

“Just received a very big check from D.C. Entertainment for my participation in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (Anatoli Knyyazev),” reads Starlin’s statement. “Much bigger than anything I’ve gotten for Thanos, Gamora and Drax showing up in any of the various Marvel movies they appeared in, combined. Guess I’ll finally have to sit down and watch the movie.”

Starlin did not disclose the amount of the check he received, nor how much money he’s received from Marvel. Starlin’s Marvel creations have appeared in both Avengers films and Guardians of the Galaxy, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 returning Drax and Gamora to the big screen on May 5. Then, in 2018, Avengers: Infinity War will pit nearly all of Marvel’s movie heroes against Thanos, loosely adapting the Infinity Gauntlet story which Starlin wrote.
