The Time Variance Authority and Loki TV

Thor #372

The Time Variance Authority (or TVA) claims responsibility for monitoring the multiverse and can prune timelines if they’re deemed too dangerous to exist. Like Time Cops they also take action to prevent other beings from altering the past or future. The Time Variance Authority is an infinitely vast bureaucracy that governs a significant number of realities in the ever-growing multiverse. They first appeared in Thor vol. 1 #372 (October 1986). Created by Walt Simonson and Sal Buscema. The organization was first seen allowing Justice Peace, a lawman from the future, to travel to the 20th century in order to stop the killer Zaniac. Peace is able to succeed in his mission thanks to the assistance of Thor.

Tom Hiddleston

Now they will be introduced in the new Loki series which will premiere on Disney+ as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The miniseries is created by Michael Waldron for the streaming service Disney+. The series takes place after the events of the film Avengers: Endgame (2019), in which an alternate version of Loki created a new timeline. Tom Hiddleston reprises his role as Loki from the film series. Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sasha Lane, and Wunmi Mosaku also star.

Loki is expected to be released in May 2021 and will consist of six episodes. It will be part of Phase Four of the MCU. Loki it seems will be coerced into helping the TVA with time abnormalities and at some point, he meets other versions of himself in different universes the purpose of which is not made clear. Remember this version of Loki is the one who tried to conquer the earth and has not sacrificed himself to Thanos.

It will be great to see how this true anti-hero reacts to the situations that the Time Variance Authority places him in. Is the TVA using Loki for their goals or is he using them for his own purpose? The is a great premise for a Marvel story. The TVA has a rich history in Marvel involving Kang the Conquer, She-Hulk, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men, which are all part of the future of the MCU. Check it out and let us know what you think of the new Marvel series.
