It’s been a long time coming, but Spider-Man’s greatest villain is finally coming back to life. Did somebody call a doctor?

The latest comic solicitations for Marvel’s October releases confirm Doctor Octopus is officially coming back. Here’s the story’s logline: “Death is no more, and DOCTOR OCTOPUS HAS RETURNED!!! How is he back? And what does he have to do with The Jackal?” He’ll make his return in Issue No. 20 of Amazing Spider-Man, by Dan Slott, Christos Gage and Giuseppe Camuncoli.

If you haven’t been following Spidey comics for a while, here’s the short version: Doctor Octopus hasn’t been seen in his regular form for a few years now since Amazing Spider-Man 700, he was featured in Superior Spider-Man storyline that found Doc Ock’s consciousness in control of Peter Parker’s body (it sounds weird, but it was actually a pretty cool story). But, when Peter eventually came back, it seems Ock’s consciousness wasn’t purged — but was instead stored in the Living Brain, a robot working for Parker Industries. This has been hinted in recent issues, and it seems that story is finally primed to break big.

We still don’t know how he’ll get his body back (or a new body, maybe?), but it should certainly make for some interesting reading the next few months. It was a very emotional time for some readers of Superior Spider-Man which replaced Amazing Spider-Man title until Peter came back. We don’y know what kind of temperament the Doctor will have towards Spider-Man and Parker Industries which he founded when he was posing as Spider-Man.

From the brain of Dan Slott comes the return of Doctor Octopus and I am sure it will not fail to entertain. Pick up your copy of Amazing Spider-Man 20 and find out.
