Fox has committed to the pilot for a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen TV series. Various Hollywood trade sites are reporting that Fox has committed to a “put pilot,” which means the network has agreed to produce the pilot episode. However, if for some reason the pilot doesn’t get aired, the studio will have to pay vast penalties (which usually guarantees that the pilot will air).

The new Fox show is said to be based on the Alan Moore graphic novel of the same name set in the Victorian-era featuring characters such as Captain Nemo, Allan Quatermain, Dracula’s Mina Harker, the Invisible Man and Dr Jekyll/Mr. Hyde. More than likely the League of Extraordinary Gentleman TV series will not be associated with the 2003 film that starred Sean Connery.

It’s reported that Michael Green (Green Lantern, Heroes, Smallville) will be the pilot writer and executive producer, and will also serve as showrunner if the series should get picked up for a full run.

Both Alan Moore and the graphic novel artist, Kevin O’Neill, are said not to be involved. No dates have been announced for a release of the pilot.
