John Carter 2012 Movie

John Carter of Mars

John Carter is a fictional character, created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, who appears in the Barsoom series of novels. Though actually a Virginian from Earth and a visitor to Mars, he is often referred to as “John Carter of Mars” in reference to the general setting in which his deeds are recorded. The first issue was written between July and September 28, 1911, it was serialized as Under the Moons of Mars in the February to July 1912 issues of the magazine All-Story and first published in book form in October 1917.

One hundred years later it will be made into a motion picture by Disney Studios. It looks like it will stay true to the story of Edgar Rice Burroughs. Civil War vet John Carter is transplanted to Mars, where he discovers a lush, wildly diverse planet whose main inhabitants are 12-foot tall green barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium, who is in desperate need of a savior. John Carter finds that he is an immortal being who must die to be transported from earth to Mars. Here his adventurers begin with aliens and war and romance.

An intriguing endeavor to put these classic tales of Edgar Rice Burroughs on the big screen. Taylor Kitsch plays John Carter, Lynn Collins plays Princess Dejah Thoris and Mark Strong plays a key role as Matai Shang. This 2012 film is scheduled for US release March 9th. Disney’s budget and reputation with movies should insure that this version of the John Carter novels will be light years better than the 2009 movie the Princess of Mars a low budget try and big disappointment to Edgar Rice Burroughs fans. John Carter has been celebrated for years as a masterpiece and classic of novel writing. Looks like Disney has pulled out all the stops to bring this story to the visual media. I will see you at the movies for this one. Stay tuned movie faithful for more. 🙂 Walt
