Marvel’s Ultimate Universe is gearing up to do the impossible: killing off the Ultimate edition of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Debuting in Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates #1 by Mark Millar and Leinil Yu, “The Death of Spider-Man” will continue in Brian Bendis’ Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #153. From there, the story arc will alternate issues until the Wall Crawler is dead, and beyond… presumably.

Both Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates #1 and Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #153 hit shelves February 2, 2011. Are they really going to do it? Time will tell. Keep them guessing and sell a ton of comics seems like Marvel’s way of doing business now a days. I guess it makes for a very interesting no holds barred way of writing. No predictability in comics makes the Ultimate Marvel Universe the place where there are no rules! While I grew up with the Marvel from the sixties when Stan Lee and his band of creators really shook things up with a different style in comics I can appreciate what Bendis and Millar are trying to do.

Ultimate Spider-Man #153 Variant

I reserve the right as a reader of comics to decide for myself what is good and not so good with my pocket book. And that is where I trust the reading public to help comic creators to create stories they want to read. It has always worked previously and will in the future. With that in mind I will see you at the Comic shop. Stay tuned comic faithful for more. 🙂 Walt
