When noon struck on Aug. 2, the Suicide Squad review embargo ended, bringing a whole new wave of critical scorn and disappointment from fans upon DC. While it didn’t take long for a gloomy picture to get painted on Rotten Tomatoes, it didn’t take long for writer/director David Ayer to defend his film either.
Ayer first responded on Twitter by repeating a quote from Mexican revolutionary Emiliano Zapta, translating to “I’d prefer to die on my feet than to live on my knees.”
Ayer then tweeted in English without quoting any other historical figures. “Zapata quote is my way of saying I love the movie and believe in it. Made it for the fans. Best experience of my life,” Ayer defended.
