When will Game of Thrones season 8 be released?

GAME OF THRONES fans are patiently waiting for season 8 to be released but when exactly will it be on HBO again? Game of Thrones season eight won’t be out until 2019, HBO announced the release date back at the start of the year.

Unfortunately, the only details revealed to fans so far is that it will be released next year, which has led to lots of speculation of why no Game of Thrones in 2018? Season eight production is taking place in Croatia, Northern Ireland, and Iceland. The cast and crew have been spotted at various locations across the world shooting scenes on the fantasy epic, including Dubrovnik where Jon Snow actor Kit Harington was apparently seen by a Croatian fan.

As well as Harington being spotted, he was seen filming scenes with Lena Headey – better known as Cersei Lannister – and John Bradley, who plays Samwell Tarly. Star Maisie Williams, who plays the younger sister to Jon Snow, Ayra Stark, is reported to have said: “We air our first episode in April [2019]. That’s a four-month turnaround for these huge episodes. There’s a lot that goes into the final edit.”

She went on to tell the Metro: “You would not want to rush this season at all. We owe it to our audience and our fans to really do this final season to the best of our abilities.” Most recently, the young star dropped a huge hint that Arya Stark could die in Game of Thrones season eight.

Why is it taking so long for the return of Game of Thrones? Production on season eight is in full flow with multiple crews working on the show across various locations with the program heads taking their time to ensure the final run is the best it can be. A set near the site of Castle Black was recently seen getting erected, suggesting that there is still quite a bit of work to be done on the new series.

There was the previous speculation about whether there would be multiple endings shot for Game of Thrones, however, Williams recently
shared her thoughts about this theory.

She told Jimmy Kimmel: “I heard this and I thought, ‘I don’t think we got the budget to shoot multiple endings. ”Her words seem to contradict HBO executive Casey Bloys, who said that to prevent any leaks there would be a number of endings filmed. Depending on which of the conflicting reports fans believe, filming several finales would be one of the reasons that the show is taking longer than usual to be released.

The actor, who is better known as Ser Davos Seaworth, said that he knew exactly how the epic saga would be coming to a close. Liam Cunningham has said that fans can expect a “bittersweet” ending to the story. “George R.R. Martin, the writer of the original books, described the end as ‘bittersweet’ and it is,” Cunningham teased to RTE Entertainment.

HBO programmer Casey Bloys said last year that a 2019 release date is plausible due to the writing process, “They have to write the episodes and figure out the production schedule. We’ll have a better sense of that once they get further into the writing,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

Filming for season eight officially started in October 2017. The HBO boss also explained that the production of season eight will be “extremely cinematic” so the production schedule will differ somewhat from previous seasons.

In another interview with the publication, Bloys explained: “They take the time they need to do the show at its highest level of quality.

“As the show has gone on, it’s gotten bigger – big battle scenes, big special effects. These things take time.

“Here’s the one thing I can assure you: [showrunners DB Weiss and David Benioff] were not sitting around on a beach waiting to go back to work. “They’re perfectionists, and this is the soonest it can come back at a level of quality that they are comfortable with.”

Whatever happens in the series you can bet it will be one of the best watched ever on TV and we are in for some surprises. There will be plenty of death and mayhem to go around and fans will love it.
