The Batman writer/director Matt Reeves has backtracked on his earlier statement that the film would not be part of the DC Extended Universe, saying now on Twitter that the film would be in-continuity with the other DC Films but would not feature any non-Batman characters.
“Jeez, what’d I miss, guys…? ???? Just to be clear: Of COURSE Batman will be part of the D.C. Universe. Batman will be BATMAN…,” tweeted Reeves. “In my comments from a while back about not being part of the DCEU, I was talking about The Batman being a story specifically about Batman… not about the others in the Universe. That it wouldn’t be filled with cameos servicing other stories — that it would be a BATMAN story.”
This comes in response to Reeves’ statements made in July on the podcast The Business, saying that Warner Bros. pitched him as wholly seperate from the other DCEU films.
“When they approached me, they said ‘It’s a standalone thing. This isn’t part of an extended universe.'”
No release date has been set for The Batman, which is expected to star Ben Affleck as Batman.
I knew the report about Batman not being in the DCEU was wrong. It did not make sense.
