Lost was a big event in 2000s television that it still around on in streaming service form, generation to… another generation there is still interest in the story. Like any big property of the past, there’s always continued fan debate/speculation/wishful thinking that the show could be rebooted or continued, as return to The Island for more mystery/horror/sci-fi/drama fun.
Executive Producer and writer Damon Lindelof recently spoke on the subject. Lindelof enthusiasim about bringing Lost back was mostly due to the nature of the show’s ending. As Lindelof puts it, “I do think it’s somewhat of a betrayal to go back in and say there’s more story to tell that I just came up with now, especially when we had ample time to end it on our own terms.”
Lost has one of the most controversial endings of any modern TV series, and many viewers actually felt let down by the series conclusion. Lindelof in his additional statement about what the challenge would be in bringing Lost fans back to the experience they had before: “Those characters not only died, but we showed you their experience post-death. Any new take on Lost will probably have to feature new characters, as it should.”
Just plopping new people into the Lost concept and premise doesn’t automatically result in success. Lost hasn’t had the greatest luck when introducing new faces. Everyone remembers the infamous “Nikki and Paulo” introduction and their quick deaths on season 3. How they would resolve the story seems like Mission Impossible but that never stopped Hollywood before.
I suppose they could make the controversial ending a dream sequence or a delusional characters nightmare, who knows? However you fell about the series ending many of the seasons were very good. To get back the feeling of those good years would not be easy. Perhaps they should come up with something new and original about people stranded on a island or reboot the whole idea.
How is your feeling about bringing back the program Lost? Should it be left as it was or fixed. Let us know your thoughts. 🙂 Walt
