Henry Cavill Asked For Civility On Instagram

Henry Cavill showing the class of a man he really is asked for a call for civility in his recent Instagram post. Henry Cavill is calling on his fans to end the hostility in their debates about his career and personal life on social media.

It started when Deadline reported the ‘Superman’ reboot with Ta-Nehisi Coates writing and J.J. Abrams producing the movie with a new actor in the title role. The May 5th article insists that it will star a black actor and feature a black director to be named in the future. The post also says that it will be the Clark Kent version of Superman, not Val Zod or Calvin Ellis or even Icon from the Dakotaverse in DC the comic world, these are all black men with Superman’s powers.

The DC fans reacted in shock and started going to social media attacking Warner Bros. and each other with speculation and remarks that may not be based in fact. Early in the discussion Grace Randolph on her YouTube channel said Henry Cavill has a likability problem behind the scenes which fueled the negative debate and ultimately resulted in Cavill asking for all fans to be civil in future remarks.

It did not help that the May 5th article was released on Cavill’s birthday and some rumored that Henry cut all ties with the WB on social media at that time which we don’t know is true. So Ta-Nehisi Coates the writer will probably not be done with the script till December this year and we may not know any more about the truth till then. Below is the post and Cavill’s words for you to read.

“Dear fans and followers, I wanted to make a wee community announcement. I couldn’t help but notice that there has been some social animosity of late. It’s becoming increasingly prevalent on my feed. There have been lots of, let’s call it speculation for now, about my private life and professional partnerships,”

“Now, while I do appreciate the passion and support by those very people who are “speculating”, It has come to such a point that I needed to say something, which in itself, is a bad thing,” he continued. “We are living in an age of social enlightenment. More and more, people are realizing that their views may have been blinkered and that they need to expand them to encompass others. So, to you out there who are expressing your disdain and showing your displeasure through a surprising variety of ways, it’s time to stop.”

“I know it can be fun to speculate, to gossip, and to dive into our own personal echo chambers on the internet, but your ‘passion’ is misplaced, and it causes harm to the people I care about most. Even your most conservative of negative assumptions about both my personal and professional life just aren’t true,” Cavill explained. “Let’s embrace this age of social enlightenment together, and move forward with positivity. I am very happy in love, and in life. I’d be enormously grateful if you were happy with me. If you can’t bring yourself to be happy with me, then at the very least try to do yourself proud and be the best version of yourself.”

I have always thought that Cavill was a good actor and respected others on set including those he was under contract. I have never heard any concrete evidence that he is not well-liked by others in the entertainment world. We try to deal in facts at Comics Talk and will always strive to walk that narrow path. We will let you know more when it becomes available.
