Aquaman Not Selected for Academy Awards VFX

Aquaman is an incredible looking movie but now the Academy has revealed its VFX list, there’s no sign of the DC Comics adaptation and director James Wan has something to say about it. Academy Awards recently released the first wave of nominees are those in the running for “Best Visual Effects.” But, Aquaman wasn’t among them and in a recent post on Facebook from visual effects supervisor Kevin McIlwain, director James Wan shared his thoughts on this.

“You and your department are the unsung heroes of this film,” Wan wrote. “The fact that your VFX peers in the Academy aren’t recognizing or appreciating what we/you’ve all contributed to the film and cinema is a [frick]ing disgrace.”

The ten films which are currently in the running include the following:

Ant-Man the Wasp
Avengers: Infinity War
Black Panther
Christopher Robin
First Man
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Mary Poppins Returns
Ready Player One
Solo: A Star Wars Story

Many people feel the visual effects of Aquaman are amazing even the people that did not like the movie for other reasons. Do you think this is unfair compared to the movies in the list? Perhaps it is. But Aquaman the movie may have the last laugh by making a $1 billion for the WB.
