Fear Itself Press Conference Marvel

Fear Itself Marvel

After a week of images depicting the greatest fears of Spider-Man, the Hulk, Captain America, Cyclops, Thor, and Iron Man Marvel Comics unveiled the details behind the upcoming “Fear Itself” event at New York’s Midtown Comics. Joe Quesada, Tom Brevoort, and Axel Alonso showed two teaser videos and announced that Matt Fraction and Stuart Immonen will be the creative team on the core seven-issue miniseries, with Ed Brubaker and Scot Eaton tackling the prologue issue, which hits stores in March.

The seven-issue monthly miniseries Fear Itself launches in April and will feature the likes of Spider-Man, Captain America, the Avengers, Thor, the Hulk and many others going up against secret characters and a major-league malevolent force. Fear Itself will feature the creative talents of writer Matt Fraction as well as Stuart Immonen, Wade Von Grawbadger and Laura Martin.

If you thought Marvel would give it a rest with yearly Big Event comics you thought wrong. Nothing is more negative and dark as fear so when Marvel editor in chief Joe Quesada was asked if he was going back to dark stories again he answered:

What Do You Fear?

“The climate in the world today was certainly the inspiration for this as we started to think about the bigger stories for the Marvel Universe,” Marvel editor in chief Joe Quesada said at a press conference at Midtown Comics in Manhattan. “You will absolutely see the real world inject itself into this story because it’s undeniable that there’s a certain something in the air right now…we tend to tap into that whether consciously or unconsciously and it effects all our stories.”

“Our characters have always battled the darkness around us,” says vice president and executive editor Tom Brevoort. “The threats they’ve faced have never been a game of Tiddlywinks. We want to see how much they can triumph over adversity. The stakes have to be high for our heroes to triumph.” Many heroes enter the fray, and there will a chosen eight deemed most worthy to, of course, save the world.

Much like Secret Invasion, Marvel creators have been setting up this storyline covertly for a while, and Fear Itself will be analogous to that in terms of crossover with other Marvel titles, according to Brevoort. However, it will be more like Civil War in terms of ambition and real-world themes alongside a rip-snortin’ superhero adventure.

Adds Brevoort: “They’re not going to be sitting in a bread line wondering about a foreclosure on Avengers Tower.” Like other Marvel comics in the past, Fear Itself will speak to the world we live in, according to Fraction. Everyone is afraid of something right now. “It’s the very best of us against the very worst of gods,” he adds. “Wait until we start teasing who the worthy are and why they were chosen. We are going to be busting the doors down with the biggest story we’ve ever told.”

Well that’s how it went at the conference let me know what you think are you ready for more drama involving superheroes or its that really why you read comics to be entertained and challenged. As my aunt Maud used to say proofs in what you do not what you say. Lets see if it is really the ” biggest story we’ve ever told.” Till then see you at the comic shop. Stay tuned comic faithful for more. 🙂 Walt
