Very little has been revealed about Marvel and James Gunn’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie, but here is a origin of sorts from the comics but not nessaceraly related to the movie coming out. I have included an excelent video produced by IGN because it sets the table I think the best for the movie production, giving the basics of what we know about the Guardians of the Galaxy. Also if you have not read Guardians of the Galaxy #1 I recommend you do so.
The current regime of the Guardians of the Galaxy was operating within the 616 universe, with their base of operation being Knowhere, which was the severed head of an unknown Celestial. This incarnation of the Guardians was founded by the Star-Lord who saw the need for a proactive strike team to protect the universe form violent attacks such as the Annihilation Wave or the villainous Phalanx. Star-Lord recruited cosmic heavyweight such as Adam Warlock, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Mantis, Phyla-Vel and Rocket Raccoon to his team of universe protectors. During their first mission these Guardians destroyed a Templeship belonging to the Universal Church of Truth in order to close a fissure within the fabric of reality.
This is a movie that would never be produced without the Marvel Studio movies that came before it to set the table for an intergalacic adventure including the introduction of Thanos at the end of the Avengers. Already confirmed for the film are Chris Pratt as Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord), Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, and Michael Rooker as Yondu. Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters on August 1, 2014. We still have time to prologue the eventual meeting of Thanos by the Avengers. This phase of movies begins with Iron Man 3 on May 3erd and I am wondering what hints of the Thanos meeting will be given. Keep in mind don’t leave the theater early at Iron Man 3 or any Marvel Studios movie that is coming out in the near future WAIT FOR THE CREDITS TO FINISH. Enough said you have been warned. Stay tune comic and movie faithful for more. 🙂 Walt
