Superman: Son of Kal-El New DC Title

The action begins this week as a new ongoing monthly series, Superman: Son of Kal-El replaces the current Superman monthly title. Written by Tom Taylor (Nightwing, DCeased, Suicide Squad) with art by John Timms (Young Justice, Harley Quinn), this series follows the new adventures of the son of Superman as he’s entrusted with the protection of Earth.

Superman Son of Kal-El

Jonathan Kent has experienced a lot in his young life. He’s fought evil with Robin (Damian Wayne), traveled across galaxies with his Kryptonian grandfather, and lived in the future with the Legion of Super-Heroes, who were intent on training him for the day his father could no longer be Superman. There is a hole in the Legion’s history that prevents Jon from knowing exactly when that will happen, but all signs point to it being very soon. It’s time for the son to wear the cape of his father and replace him as a symbol of hope for his home planet.

Superman has become vulnerable but the world still needs Superman so Kal-El is replaced by the son of Kal-El. Johnathan Kent son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane. The “House of El” must continue through Johnathan so the adventure begins. This is a natural progression since 1939 the first Action Comics we have been waiting for this moment. The handing of the torch from one generation to another.

The first edition highlights the relationship between Jonathan and Damian Wayne the son of Bruce Wayne and the friendship which is developing as both assume being the protege of their father’s career. This has the potential to be something great, that reminds me of what Damian last said to Johnathan, “It’s time for Superman to stop fighting the symptoms. You’re powerful enough to be the cure.” A very interesting way to start the legend of Superman Son of Kal-El.

“be the cure”

This series is a recommended read of Comics Talk and one that will be talked about for years I am sure.
