As expected, Brolin’s Cable is true to his comic book counterpart, sporting a head of silver hair, a star-shaped scar on the right side of his face, and glowing left eye. And while the initial image crops Cable just below the neck, a subsequent Instagram post by creator Rob Liefeld shows Cable sporting not only his signature robotic arm, but some pretty massive pieces of ammunition on his shoulder straps as well — along with an insanely large gun. In short, those hoping Brolin’s Cable would be wilding some of Liefeld’s signature over-the-top weaponry will not be disappointed.

Perhaps most importantly, we see that among the items strapped to Cables myriad belts and pouches is a teddy bear. It looks a little worse for wear, and might seem an odd detail to those who aren’t familiar with the character’s more recent comic book history. But for Marvel comics readers, the bear is another clue that what many have long suspected is likely true — Deadpool 2 will at least touch on, of not focus directly on Cable’s role as the surrogate father of Hope Summers, a young mutant upon whose shoulders rests the future of all mutant kind. Indeed, this is the second major tease of the character; her name was prominently displayed as part of the graffiti decorating a phone booth in the first Deadpool 2 teaser. By Stephen Gerding.

Directed by David Leitch (John Wick), Deadpool 2 is filming in Vancouver, British Columbia. Premiering June 1, 2018, the sequel will see the return of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Karan Soni as Dopinder, with newcomers Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable, Julian Dennison in an unknown role, and Jack Kesy as a villain widely thought to be Black Tom Cassidy.
